It’s Not Always about Going Fast and Racing…

We had a very light wind day today on the Woodwind. And we had a 4.5 hour private event for employees and their families of a nearby engineering firm. They brought a bunch of kids that were very inquisitive. We did our very best to keep them happy and into the sailing even though we were sailing pretty slowly.

For how many small kids were aboard (and infants) this was the perfect weather for this group. It was especially exciting when a huge, 1000-ft container ship came up the Bay and we looked up the vessel on our phone and could tell them all kinds of fun facts about the boat. The kids enjoyed the learning all day. Frank, one of our crew, was so patient reading to the kids about the different types of sailing vessels on the Bay.

It was the two hats and a stray balloon that we rescued from the Bay that had the group interested in how the boat sailed. They were amazed by our skills. 🙂

This Wednesday night, the wind died to zero on the river and the Bay. The Annapolis Yacht Club cancelled the race. On Wednesday nights, when we typically match race each other, we don’t need a starting line. It’s great that we have one… but it isn’t necessary. So, when we don’t have wind, we go looking for it.  On our way, we usually see some beautiful scenery and make the most of a beautiful night.

This was the case tonight… there was no wind to be found anywhere. But we tried, we motor-sailed up Weems Creek and the Severn River. Nobody seemed to mind at all. The weather was gorgeous, the humidity at an all time low, and the sunset beautiful.  See more photos here.
