We have been waiting for the first sail of the season for 6 months! Sunday was not a day to disappoint! The wind was blowing from 10-18 knots and the sky was cloudless and bright blue.
Today was a special day, we had the West Hill High School Choral Group on board. This choral group had a competition in Virginia and rocked it in most of the categories they sang in with some top honors!! They have been sailing with us after these competitions for a couple of years.
The morning sail was a chilly one with around 30 students on each Woodwind. At 12:30, we took the other half of the group out. On both cruises we were able to sail around 9-10 knots into the Bay. Captain Mike was on Woodwind II and I was on Woodwind, so we tacked and gybed around each other, having fun as we sailed in from the middle of the Bay.
Thankfully, we had a boatload of fleece stadium blankets to keep the group warm. Many of the students took turns at the helm, and some never wanted to give up their time being “captain”.
On the last sail of the day, the 3:00 sail, we had 12 lucky guests on the warmest cruise that day. We had 4 birthdays aboard, so the bubbly was brought out for all of the celebrations! The wind kept up for the entire sail, and all had a terrific time. Great way to start 2013!
