2024 Sailing Season is coming! See you April 13, 2024!

Schooner Adventurer, reprise, Sailing Capital, Great Sailing

This Sunday we had cool, comfortable temperatures.  Autumn sailing has arrived with the wind from the South, 12 to 18 knots!

As we head into the harbor we see an old friend, Mark Faulstick, on board his 1928 classic schooner, Adventurer.  Some of you may remember my post from August 22 (https://schoonerwoodwind.com/2013/08/hey-woodwind-is-leaving-without-me/) showing some details of the vessel’s construction. Well, here we have a chance to see her fly by with a “bone in her teeth!”

Talking about old friends, Bill and Chris, from Severna Park, join us for our 3 PM sail.  They remember when Woodwind did not have a sister!  Chris confidently takes the helm.  They have been with us numerous times and Chris knows how to control Woodwind as we fly at 10 knots.

We are fortunate to catch a J 22 regatta and watch a crowded mark rounding with the Annapolis Capital in the background.  Here are some details to observe as the vessels round the mark.  They have to drop their colorful spinnakers, raise their jib and prepare for the upwind mark.  On a windy day like today, its kind of like changing from long pants to shorts while running around a busy traffic circle here in Annapolis, with everyone in town watching!

Amelia and Neil join us for a sail.  They have had several boats of their own.  Amelia wants to make sure that her infant, Oliver starts training early.

Rook, a crew member who has been with us for over 10 years, enjoys teaching our guests “the ropes”, or is he just “handing them a line?!”

The dusk melds into a shimmering sunset as we head back in.

What a great day!
