Greg Gwaltney is a retired environmental scientist and 5th-generation Black Waterman family descendent with family members who continue to work as watermen on the Potomac and James Rivers.

BoCF will share the legacy of enslaved Africans and their descendants, the Black Watermen of the Chesapeake Bay, as patriots and stewards of the region’s maritime and seafood economies, with history of Harriett Tubman, Union scout. She was the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the Civil War. Frederick Douglass, was an Orator and Advocate for the abolition of slavery, believing in freedom and equality for all, and a champion who fought for women’s rights, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all struggles for justice and equality.
