DESCRIPTION:Event Cancelled due to Private Charter \nDon Shappelle is a singer/songwriter from Wilkes-Barre\, Pennsylvania. He lives on the banks of the Susquehanna River so it is natural that many of his original songs are about this river in subject and spirit. Don also calls Perryville\, Maryland home now. This is where the Susquehanna River flows into and becomes the Chesapeake Bay. After graduating from College Miseracordia in Pennsylvania with a degree in music\, Don’s musical life has taken him to many places including time spent living and touring in Europe. \nDon has also lived and performed in New York City and the Hudson Valley of New York where he collaborated with folk music legend Pete Seeger and others in The Clearwater Organization\,a large group of people dedicated to cleaning the Hudson River. A Don Shappelle original tune “The Tugboat Song” was featured on the album “Broad Ole River” released by Pete Seeger and the Hudson River Sloop Singers. Don’s lifelong commitment and dedication to the environment and nature was truly awakened at that time. \nAfter a trip to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland many years ago Don fell in love with that region of water and shoreline\, the land of pleasant living as it is traditionally called. His music has reflected this connection ever since. He has sung many times at waterfront gatherings and festivals\, in support of cleaning the bay and its tributaries. \n

DESCRIPTION:Dirk Schwenk is an award winning singer-songwriter from the great state of Maryland.  His formal training includes years of clarinet and symphonic band\, but he found rock and roll as a late-addition bass player in the High School talent show\, and never went back.  He has been singing\, playing guitar and songwriting ever since\, and has played for crowds at many of Maryland’s best rock venues\, including the Recher Theater\, Rams Head Live and of course Annapolis’ own The Whiskey.  Set lists start with great original music but include everything from Johnny Cash to Jimmy Buffet and the Ramones.  Just as long as its a great song (and maybe even better a drinking song with a Country edge) and we’re having as good a time as we can with our time on earth.  This event will be a return to Dirk’s roots: he was married aboard the Woodwind in August\, 1995.

DESCRIPTION:Illinois-born Ken Wenzel is a study in contradictions: a guitarist who plays saxophone\, a singer who writes instrumentals\, a purveyor of restless sentimentality who continues to search for truths best found within. As a singer-songwriter now based in Washington DC\, Ken has been gaining attention locally and regionally with his midwestern-accented musings\, telling stories spun from a life spent moving from town to town. Fittingly\, he plays 200+ shows a year – all over the DelMarVa region\, the eastern seaboard\, the midwest\, and south. \nHis first solo acoustic EP\, “…this is cross kentucky”\, released April 9\, 2010\, is a stripped-down\, 7-song examination of desires and dreams both past and present. Tinged in Americana and country jazz\, and featuring Ken’s dusty\, wheat-cracked voice\, “…this is cross kentucky” showcases the perspective and passions of a newly-arrived\, yet seasoned singer/songwriter – one with a somewhat different story and background than most. \nBorn and raised in Champaign\, Illinois\, Ken studied classical saxophone at the University of Illinois before graduating from UNLV in Las Vegas\, NV with a degree in jazz studies. Since then\, he’s played all over the world: in Las Vegas casinos\, on cruise ships in Northern Europe\, Africa\, and Asia\, at Universal Studios in Osaka\, Japan\, on national tours of Broadway musicals\, and at festivals including the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival. As a saxophonist\, Ken is an in-demand freelancer\, having played with artists both locally and nationally- including\, among others\, Frankie Avalon\, Ben Vereen\, Bobby Parker\, and Carlos Santana. The “Woodwind” is a two-masted\, 74- foot schooner that sails out of Annapolis. Just sailing on this wooden schooner is a great experience!!! When you bring your camera it becomes a magical opportunity to capture the beauty of Annapolis and all the other sailboats on the water. “Raise the sails\, steer the boat or sit back and relax with a cold beverage” is the Woodwind’s motto. \nThe Workshop: When you sail with renowned photographers Roger Miller and Jeffrey Wolk\, it will be a learning experience while you are being coached by the pros. Roger Miller has produced 36 books featuring his photography which include the first full color book on Annapolis. Jeffrey Wolk is brilliant in post-processing and all technical aspects of photography. Roger and Jeffrey will begin the sail with important tips to remember about shooting on the water. They will then work with you to make sure you are getting the most out of your camera. \nWho is this Workshop geared toward? This is best for advanced amateurs who have a DSLR and a telephoto lens and know how to use RAW files. If you want to know more about what camera to use we will have information from Service Photo\, 3838 Falls Road\, Baltimore\, MD 21211\, 410-235-6200\, the best source of information and cameras supplies in the area. Or call them before you sail. If you don’t have a DSLR you are more than welcome to join us.
