Featuring several guest appearances from some of the DC area’s finest musicians\, “…Beneath Potomac Skies” is the long-awaited follow-up to Ken’s 2010 debut acoustic EP\, “…This is Cross Kentucky”. With a raw voice\, lyrical saxophone\, and honest\, straightforward songwriting\, both records showcase the perspective and passions of a well traveled\, yet still searching singer/songwriter – one with a somewhat different story and background than most. \nBorn and raised in Champaign\, Illinois\, Ken studied classical saxophone at the University of Illinois before graduating from UNLV in Las Vegas\, NV with a degree in jazz studies. He spent the next decade playing all over the world: in Las Vegas casinos; on cruise ships in Northern Europe\, Africa\, and Asia; at Universal Studios in Osaka\, Japan; on national tours of Broadway musicals; at festivals including the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival and 2010 Chicago Blues Festival; and of course\, in countless clubs and small venues. DESCRIPTION:Dirk Schwenk is an award winning singer-songwriter from the great state of Maryland. His formal training includes years of clarinet and symphonic band\, but he found rock and roll as a late-addition bass player in the High School talent show\, and never went back. His songs have been heard on TV shows such as One Tree Hill\, Degrassi\, Switched at Birth\, and Teen Mom. His most recent single\, “This Is Why I Need You”\, reached the top 10 in 12 different countries\, and has been streamed more than 26 million times. It is currently on rotation on the Sirius/XM Coffeehouse Channel. He recently signed a record deal with Universal Music. \nBeyond his music career\, Ruben is highly active in philanthropic endeavors. He has run the NYC Marathon three times for The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation\, the largest non-profit devoted to spinal cord injuries\, and three times to raise money for Lyme Disease research. He is also the founder of The We Can Project\, an initiative for elementary and middle school students designed to help them discover their passion and give back to their communities. So far\, more than 500\,000 students across the US and Canada have participated. Their primary focus is collecting instrument donations\, repairing and reintroducing them into struggling schools and music therapy programs for veterans. Since their launch\, Music 4 More has donated over 700 instruments to schools and VA hospitals in 13 states. \n \nMusic 4 More accepts instruments in any shape (Currently we are not taking donations of pianos/organs or sheet music).
